Three Common Concerns When Considering CBD
by Dr. Mary Clifton
Taking a supplement of any kind is personal and I often get questions around whether someone should take CBD due to their unique and specific circumstances. First and foremost, CBD and other cannabinoid formulations are 100% safe. People report improvement in common conditions like sleeplessness, feelings of anxiousness and pain. It can sometimes feel like CBD is being touted as a wonder drug that helps everyone. Many individuals will benefit from CBD and more than likely you’ll be one of them.
Below are 3 common concerns many have around whether they should or should not try CBD:
I’m on other medications – will CBD affect this?
For those who are on daily medication for seizures or high blood pressure I recommend confirming with your doctor that CBD (or any supplement) is right for you and safe to take along with your daily medication. It is very uncommon or unusual for CBD to cause an adverse affect when taken alongside other medication, however some people do have a very personalized response especially when taken other, strong medication so it’s best to check with your doctor.
Is CBD Addictive?
Some people with history of addiction treatment are concerned about using CBD. CBD can contain the intoxicating cannabinoid THC, but at levels of less than three parts per 1000. Or 0.3%. This makes the intoxicating chemical present at such a low amount that it will never cause intoxication. Healist products have 0.0% THC – which allows it to support calm, stress and relief without no risk of addiction. So while CBD does result in a calming response for many people, it should not be considered a break in sobriety for people in recovery.
It Isn't Working for Me
Generally, studies support that somewhere between 15 -20%, or 1 in 5 people, report that CBD doesn’t work for them. This may be due to genetic differences in metabolism, but it’s most likely that people who feel that CBD isn’t working are not taking enough to have it make a difference. It’s important to choose a formulation that contains an adequate amount of CBD, so that an adequate amount is administered to have an affect. It’s also key to experiment with your dosage levels to find what level allows you to feel the positive effects.
